A NEW PROJECT! Swords reconstructions for Museums!

Viktor Berbekucz: "As a bladesmith, I have always strived to carefully study historical weaponry. I try to imagine how these weapons were used and what kind of stress the swords had to endure."

Of course, it would be ideal if we could test an original antique sword, but that is not possible.
That’s why I want to create precise, battle-ready replicas of some of these swords. This way, we can perform various tests on them, which could reveal a lot about how they were used in the past.
Our museums (Hungarians) house many beautiful swords. We aim to recreate several of them in cooperation with these institutions, so we can learn even more about the weapons and share these new insights with anyone interested.
For each sword, we create two reconstructions: one will be donated to the museum, and the other will be displayed in our own exhibition.
Our first stop was the King Matthias Museum in Visegrád, where we took measurements of a selected 12th–13th century sword together with Gergely Búzás (museum director) and Olivér Kovács (author of The Novel of the Sword). Although much of the blade is missing, the hilt reveals that it must once have been a truly unique weapon.
Finally, we also recorded the dimensions of the antler-hilted dagger to make an even more accurate reconstruction in the future (we previously made one based on available photos and data)."
